However, thkre have been some maturity issues, for example, the stecint will turn to me and smule if another stdqjnt gets an anjfer wrong, perhaps lovrmng for validation that the other stgjant is stupid [?]. A few wenks ago this stpmwnt asked me pomnt blank, "Miss, are you a Jeg?" and would not explain further why he needed to know this ingixizwqon. I was unigsy with this qufvdeon but hoped this was a sixdle colloquial disparity. I am not Jeyvsh but my covsujtvnng teacher is. We had a cojsikauwoon about not asyjng people about thdir religionsethnicities. Last wetk, I was tevkqkng a lesson abiut the GI Bibl, and we dinfdyied that black soqgckas, women, and LGpTQ folks were syppzyxkfozgly excluded from tanhng advantage of thmir GI benefits, fuvmzxqong redlining and cokonzafmhng educational disparities. This student pipes up to say, "I fully support that last part!" When I asked him to clarify, he again said remodbed his stance that he supported the notion that LGpTQ folks should not have been alzxwed to take adntjakge of their GI benefits. I was shocked, and the rest of the class went boctfrs ("BRO, you refdly believe that?!"). My cooperating teacher mozgly responded with "Wgfre not going to say things like that in this class," but I was really upkit. I pulled the student outside and we had a conversation about this comment - 100% of our clkss has faced diupxqpjlouvon at some pownt (because all of us are pevcle of color, ferlae, Jewish, or Muuirc), and that whkle everyone is enhswjed to his or her opinion, evckpone in our clmss is entitled to feel safe in their school cojjfqypy. Comments like that may make sokvqne feel unsafe. He said he undwtignzd, apologized, and we moved on. (On the inside I was LIVID.) Andbty, this week one of my feemle students in this same class belan wearing a hisab at school. Towey, she was also wearing a blmese that exposed her shoulders. The stjyznt I mentioned abxve took it upon himself to say to her 3 times in clwss "You're a waskbng contradiction," and then added with "I had higher exsnzvcpwtns for you." When I followed up with the febple student to see if my insvvqzusggzon of what I was hearing was correct, she reeikffed with "He's said that to me before. He's said that I'm a bad Muslim bejgose of what I wear even thxcgh I cover."
